President Tinubu approves Nigeria as host for the CAF Awards and Ordinary Congress

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has given his approval for Nigeria to host this year’s CAF Awards as well as the 48th Ordinary General Assembly.

The CAF Awards, which honor Africa’s top players, coaches and teams, are slated for December, while the 48th Ordinary General Assembly is set for October.

The announcement was made yesterday at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, after a meeting with CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe.

Also attending the summit in Kenya were Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mrs Bianca Odumegwu‑Ojukwu; the President of the Nigeria Football Federation Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON); CAF President’s Special Adviser Amaju Melvin Pinnick (OFR); and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.

The CAF Awards is an annual showcase that celebrates the continent’s best football performers amid a setting of glitz, glamour and panache. Nigeria last hosted the ceremony in 2017.

Among Nigeria’s most celebrated footballers—Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amuneke, Kanu Nwankwo, Victor Ikpeba, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman—have received the continent’s best‑player honours, while Mercy Akide‑Udoh, Cynthia Uwak, Perpetua Nkwocha and Asisat Oshoala have dominated the women’s award.

The CAF Ordinary General Assembly convenes senior figures in African football, including the presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions and other senior officials from across the continent.
