The Presidency has rejected allegations that Nigeria is experiencing widespread hunger, asserting that a large number of citizens are benefiting from President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the statement during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday.

Onanuga said that the government’s ongoing infrastructure projects and economic interventions are having a positive effect on Nigerians.

He referenced a recent trip from Ibadan to Lagos via Ijebu‑Ode and Sagamu, during which he saw a newly built concrete road.

Onanuga also highlighted government-backed credit facilities for civil servants, noting that workers can now obtain loans at single‑digit interest rates.

He argued that the narrative of widespread hunger is exaggerated, pointing out that his personal interactions with Nigerians do not match the level of hardship often portrayed publicly.

The aide also mentioned the recent increase in the national minimum wage, saying the Tinubu administration has raised it by more than 100 percent.

Onanuga referred to an incident early in the administration when a video of the President was paired with the Yoruba phrase “Ebi n pa wa” (meaning “we are hungry”), claiming it helped shape the perception that Nigerians were experiencing severe hunger.

His remarks come amid ongoing debates about the country’s economic conditions, the rising cost of living, and the impact of government reforms on citizens.
