Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi said Wednesday’s friendly against Portugal would be a strong test for the team, according to the DAILY POST.
Éric Chelle’s side come into the match with a buoyant record, having won four and drawn two of their last six games.
Since Chelle took charge in January 2025, the Super Eagles have lost only once in regulation time across 24 matches.
Portugal, who are preparing for the World Cup, are expected to be a difficult opponent for the three‑time African champions, but Ndidi expressed confidence in his side’s readiness.
“It will be a very good test for us. We faced the first test against Poland, and Portugal is a great team with great players as well,” Ndidi told a press conference in Leiria on Tuesday.
“It will be a massive test for us as a group, to our vision, to our aim as a team, to our growth. It will definitely be a good test for us.”
“We don’t know who are playing, even if we are playing against the biggest countries in the world, the most important thing is that as players we are ready to win. We look forward to taking our philosophy and strategy to the game.”
Portugal defeated the Super Eagles 4‑0 in their first meeting four years ago.
