Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez has commented on his side’s 2‑1 win over Nigeria’s Super Eagles, as reported by the DAILY POST.

The former European champions secured the victory against Éric Chelle’s men at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria on Wednesday night.

The match served as Portugal’s final preparation before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Portugal initially struggled to create scoring opportunities but eventually took the lead when Chelsea winger Pedro Neto found the net in the 23rd minute.

Nigeria responded, with Akor Adams equalising eight minutes before the interval.

Portugal’s substitute Francisco Conceição then scored the decisive goal fifteen minutes from time.

Martinez described the encounter as a tough test for his squad.

“It was a fantastic test, the opponent was demanding, from a different culture, we don’t usually play against African teams,” he said. “I think today we had an opponent with players who have a lot of physical ability and use attacking movements very well, without needing much combination to get into the area,” Martinez added after the game.
