The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) scheduled its House of Representatives primaries for 16 May 2026. Police officers and other security personnel were deployed at all polling centres to prevent any form of disruption.
At 3 pm, many polling centres had not yet received any voting materials, and the primaries had not yet begun at the ward headquarters across the state.
During the observation, Vanguard noted that voting points and election materials had not yet arrived at the venues when the report was filed.
An APC member, who had been waiting to vote for his preferred aspirants since about 10 am, said that the voting process had not yet started.
According to a report from Gudi, the governor’s hometown, Governor Abdulahi Sule had already voted. Earlier that morning, at about 10 am, Nasarawa State APC chairman Dr. Aliyu Bello stated that the party primary was ready to commence.
State Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, explained that the conduct of primary elections is the sole responsibility of political parties, while security forces are present only to maintain peace at the venues.
He added that the APC House of Representatives primary had been largely peaceful, with no reports of violence.
