Kano State Police Command seized a stolen vehicle in Takai Local Government Area and detained a suspect during a rapid intelligence‑driven operation.
The incident was confirmed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Friday.
According to the statement, the Command received a distress call on May 12, 2026, at about 4:54 pm via its emergency line. The call reported that a silver Pontiac Vibe bearing registration number KMC 928 LK had been stolen in Kaduna State and was en route to Kano.
Following a directive from Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, officers were dispatched immediately to border communities to intercept the vehicle’s suspected route.
The statement said a Divisional Police Officer in Takai established a roadblock, where the vehicle was eventually seized and the suspect detained.
“The suspect, Christian Ikwumesi ’m’, 38, from Benin, Edo State, was arrested on the spot and the vehicle recovered,” the statement added.
Preliminary findings confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen in Kaduna State. The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kano for further inquiry.
The recovered vehicle was returned to its rightful owner, who praised the police for their prompt response and recovery effort.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori praised the officers involved and reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating cross‑border crime.
He said, “We will continue to respond swiftly to distress calls and ensure criminals have no safe haven in Kano State.”
The Command also urged the public to keep reporting suspicious movements through its emergency lines.
