The Abia State Police Command has seized fifteen vehicles and detained fifteen individuals across the state for violations of vehicle registration and number‑plate regulations.
Police officials said the operation followed a directive from Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Disu and reflected the State Command’s commitment to improving security.
A statement signed by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Abia Police spokesperson, explained that the statewide enforcement drive targeted unregistered vehicles and those with obscured, defaced, altered, or illegally covered registration plates.
“During the period under review, the Command successfully impounded a total of fifteen (15) vehicles found violating vehicle registration and number‑plate regulations in various locations across the State,” DSP Chinaka said.
“Fifteen (15) suspects were arrested for offences related to the use of unregistered vehicles and tampered or improperly displayed registration plates.”
“Nine (9) cases have been charged to court, while other related cases that are still under investigation will be concluded and diligently prosecuted,” she added.
The Command praised the operational discipline of the officers involved and reiterated that the enforcement aims to strengthen public safety, enhance crime prevention, and deny criminal elements opportunities to exploit vehicle identification loopholes.
