Kebbi State Police Command has begun an investigation and a manhunt after a woman died from a gunshot wound in Bagudo Local Government Area.
The information was shared by security analyst and counter‑insurgency expert Zagazola Makama on his X handle.
Police say the incident happened on June 9 in Geza Village, where 25‑year‑old Sa’ima Sani was shot by a locally made Dane gun.
Initial findings indicate that Sa’ima had been asked by her husband, Auwalu Hassan, to bring him the loaded firearm, which was kept in a room inside their home.
While carrying the weapon to the back of the house where her husband was, the gun allegedly discharged accidentally, striking her in the stomach and left hand.
The incident was reported to police, prompting officers from the Bagudo Divisional Police Headquarters to respond and transport the victim to General Hospital in Bagudo for treatment.
She later died while receiving medical care.
Police said the body was photographed and processed before being released to her family for burial.
The command also said it was working to locate and arrest the deceased’s husband, who reportedly left the area after the incident.
Investigations are continuing to determine the full circumstances of the shooting and whether any criminal negligence was involved.
The police urged the public to observe proper firearm safety measures and to store weapons securely to prevent avoidable tragedies.
