Anambra Police Command has dismissed a viral social media claim that a military helicopter released unidentified items in a bush between the Nimo and Adazi‑Nnukwu communities of Anaocha Local Government Area.

The Command called the claim a false security alert and urged residents to remain calm.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers were dispatched to the area immediately after the report spread.

Investigations and on‑site assessments found the area peaceful, with no suspicious objects or threats detected.

Ikenga added that normal activities were continuing in and around the site while security personnel maintained routine surveillance to ensure public safety.

Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, responded by telling the public to ignore the alarm and refrain from sharing unverified information that could cause fear or erode confidence in the state’s security system.

The commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to proactive policing, intelligence‑driven operations, and cooperation with other security agencies and community stakeholders to preserve peace and security throughout Anambra State.

He also urged residents to confirm security information through official channels and to report any suspicious activity promptly to the nearest police station or other security formations.

This clarification follows rising concerns about misinformation on social media, which experts say can provoke unnecessary panic and confusion among the public.
