Police from the Zamfara State Police Command rescued five travelers who had been abducted by suspected bandits on the Anka‑Bukkuyum Road during a rapid security operation.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, the command’s spokesperson, said the victims were taken on June 10 after armed attackers blocked the highway and seized commuters.

Abubakar explained that the Anti‑Violent Crime Response Unit answered a distress call and launched a rescue mission, tracking the assailants into nearby forests.

The officers engaged the fleeing bandits in a gunfight, forcing the attackers to abandon the captives and flee, reportedly suffering gunshot wounds.

All five abductees were recovered unharmed, and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals were seized during the operation.

The police reiterated their commitment to tackling insecurity in the state and urged residents to keep providing useful information to aid ongoing efforts against criminal activity.
