Police Refute Viral Video Tied to Abducted Oyo Students and Teachers

The Nigeria Police Force has denied that a viral video shared on social media is related to the recent abduction of school children and teachers in Oyo State. The police say the footage was not filmed in Nigeria and has no connection to the incident.

In a statement posted on its X account on Friday, the Force described the clip as an old video that was being circulated to mislead the public and create fear.

“This video is unrelated to the incident and is being used to spread misinformation and cause unnecessary panic,” the police said.

The Force warned that unverified content shared on social media can misinform the public and hamper ongoing security and rescue operations.

It also announced that security measures have been tightened after the abduction, with additional operatives and intelligence resources deployed to aid the rescue effort.

“Security agencies have intensified rescue efforts, deploying additional operational and intelligence resources to ensure the victims’ safe return,” the statement added.

While no further operational details were released, the police confirmed that all necessary resources are being mobilised to secure the victims’ safe return.
