Police recover 329 stolen cattle after gunfight with bandits in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has recovered 329 rustled cattle after a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in Gummi Local Government Area of the state.

The development was reported in a post shared on X on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with military personnel.

The joint security team was said to have acted on credible intelligence about the movement of armed bandits in Gambanda Forest on June 20 at about 2:30 am.

“The criminals were forced to abandon the rustled livestock due to superior firepower and coordinated response from the security operatives,” the source said.

During the operation, the team successfully recovered 329 cattle and 175 sheep that had been earlier rustled by the bandits.

“One AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition were also recovered at the scene,” Makama added.
