Police Re-activate Operation Sweep FCT to Address Security Threats

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has reactivated a joint security initiative called “Operation Sweep FCT,” working alongside other security agencies operating in the territory.

Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, announced the reactivation with the support of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The operation was officially launched on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Eagles Square in Abuja.

According to the command, the goal of the operation is to enhance visible policing, deter criminal activity, and improve coordinated responses to security threats throughout the FCT.

Personnel involved in the operation come from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Federal Fire Service, and other security agencies.

The police further explained that the operation has been divided into sectors to improve coordination, rapid response, and security presence across the territory.

“The Command reaffirms its commitment to the protection of lives and property,” the statement read.
