The Ekiti Police Command has terminated the service of Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope after an incident involving illicit drug use.
SP Sunday Abutu, the command’s spokesperson, announced the decision in a statement issued in Ado‑Ekiti on Friday.
Abutu said the officer was captured in a viral video showing erratic behaviour at Ikole‑Ekiti on May 9 following the alleged consumption of illegal drugs.
The officer was immediately subjected to medical and psychological assessments and an internal disciplinary review.
The psychological evaluation determined that he was emotionally stable, while the medical test detected traces of tobacco and amphetamine in his system.
“During further enquiries, the officer confessed to having taken some illicit drugs,” Abutu said.
The disciplinary process was completed and the officer was found guilty of misconduct.
“He was recommended for dismissal, and the recommendation was upheld. The Command hereby confirms his dismissal with immediate effect,” Abutu added.
Abutu stressed that the police force remains a disciplined organization that will not tolerate indiscipline, unprofessional conduct or any behaviour that could tarnish its reputation.
He also noted that Commissioner of Police Falade Michael has urged all officers to maintain discipline, professionalism, accountability and integrity in their duties. (NAN)
