A 52‑year‑old man was taken into custody by the Kogi State Police Command after authorities seized 339 wraps of a substance believed to be Indian hemp in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi told reporters on Tuesday that the arrest followed an intelligence‑led operation, a strategic stop‑and‑search, and proactive crime‑prevention measures. The man was apprehended on May 9, 2026, at approximately 2:00 pm.
According to the CP, “Operatives attached to the area command in Kabba intercepted a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE during a routine stop‑and‑search operation.”
Kankarofi added that the vehicle was driven by Chris Amos, 52, with Bilat Joseph seated as a passenger. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 339 wraps of a substance reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp hidden inside.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects acquired the consignment in Ado‑Ekiti, Ekiti State, on the instructions of a man known only as “Alhaji,” whose full identity and whereabouts remain unknown.
The suspects claimed the illicit substance was intended for delivery to Yola, Adamawa State. They are currently in police custody, and the seized items have been secured pending the completion of investigations.
The commissioner emphasized that all persons connected with the crime would be prosecuted and that efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
