Police launch statewide crackdown on vehicles with hidden, unregistered plates in Imo.

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, has directed a heightened enforcement campaign against vehicles that lack registration plates or display concealed, altered, defaced, or otherwise obscured registration numbers, following a directive from the Inspector‑General of Police.

CP Bosso delivered the order during a strategic briefing with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Team Commanders, and Heads of Departments at the Command Headquarters in Owerri.

He explained that the operation seeks to strengthen internal security and improve crime prevention throughout the state.

The commissioner warned that unregistered or concealed number plates present a serious security risk, facilitating criminal concealment and hindering vehicle identification.

He urged the public to comply strictly with lawful vehicle registration requirements and to display number plates properly. He also instructed officers to carry out the campaign professionally and strictly within legal bounds.

CP Bosso used the meeting to charge area commanders and DPOs with intensifying intelligence‑led policing in their jurisdictions, calling for sustained raids on criminal hideouts, black spots, and forested areas used by offenders.

He emphasized proactive community policing and ongoing engagement with residents to tackle emerging security challenges. Supervisory officers were instructed to mentor personnel regularly on professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights, while ensuring the lawful use of force.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to professionalism and warned officers against extortion, incivility, unlawful interference in civil matters, and other misconduct.

He charged the provost and X‑Squad departments to intensify supervision and monitoring of personnel to enforce the new directives.
