The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has increased security presence throughout Abuja to ensure a calm and safe celebration of Eid‑el‑Kabir.

Speaking on Tuesday, SP Josephine Adeh announced that the command, together with other security agencies, has launched a joint operation named “Operation Sweep FCT” to protect residents.

The operation involves the Nigerian Military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and other relevant stakeholders.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the operation is organized into strategic sectors across the territory. Personnel are conducting continuous patrols and coordinated security activities designed to deter, prevent, and respond quickly to any criminal activity.

“As part of the Command’s preventive security strategy, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have been tasked with proactive sweeps of designated worship centres, recreational facilities, and other venues expected to host large gatherings,” the statement read.

“Sustained intelligence‑led operations and targeted raids on identified flash points and locations associated with illicit drug activities have also been ordered, with clear directives that all operations must be conducted professionally and within established legal standards,” the statement added.
