The Kogi State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement campaign targeting vehicles that have covered, obscured, unauthorized, defaced, invalid or missing registration number plates. The move is part of a broader effort to improve security and reduce criminal activity throughout the state.

The operation began on Monday after a directive from Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which seeks to prevent the use of unidentifiable vehicles in criminal schemes.

Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Motor Traffic Police officers to enforce the directive rigorously within their jurisdictions.

Vehicles found in violation will be impounded and investigated in accordance with existing laws.

In a statement released on Monday by Police Public Relations Officer ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the command described the exercise as a proactive security measure designed to improve vehicle identification, strengthen crime prevention, and enhance overall security operations in the state.

The statement urged motorists, transport operators and fleet owners to keep their vehicles equipped with valid, clearly visible registration plates at all times.

Owners were also advised to maintain up‑to‑date documents and have them readily available for inspection when requested.

“The exercise is aimed at strengthening public safety by denying criminal elements the use of unidentifiable vehicles for criminal activities,” the statement said.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and appealed to residents to cooperate with officers conducting the enforcement campaign.

It also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.
