Police launch anti-cultism and drug abuse campaign in Ogun secondary schools

The Ogun State Police Command has extended its campaign against cultism and other social vices to six secondary schools across the state.

ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) for the Ogun State Command, explained that the initiative directly addresses the risks of cultism, substance abuse, and deceptive gang recruitment.

POCACOV was launched in partnership with The Global Citizens NG during the All Youth/Secondary Schools Leadership Summit, which took place in Ifo Local Government Area.

ASP Oluborode urged students to take full control of their life choices, thoughts, and actions, warning that a lack of self‑leadership makes them susceptible to negative external influences.

In separate remarks, Dr. Julius Osimen spoke on global leadership fundamentals, while mental‑health advocate Mrs. Florence Freddy and scholar Mr. Taiwo Oyedele delivered sessions focused on psychological resilience and character development.

Educators and parents were also tasked with establishing early‑intervention monitoring systems to spot and address vulnerable behavioural patterns.

The summit ended with a collective pledge from the students to reject criminality and act as peer advocates, driving positive change and safety within their schools and surrounding communities.
