The Oyo State Police Command reported that it eliminated three suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during a coordinated security operation in Otu, on the Oke‑Ogun axis of the state.

DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the operation was carried out in partnership with local hunters and other security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in Oyo State.

The action followed a distress call received on 25 May 2026 from hunters who were on a hunting expedition in Otu when they were reportedly shot at by suspected kidnappers.

The police said no hunters were injured during the initial attack.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence received, a response team comprising police operatives, local hunters, and other security agencies was immediately mobilised to the scene at Otu,” the statement read.

It added that upon arrival, the security team was fired upon by the suspected kidnappers, sparking a gun duel.

“However, through superior tactical response and coordinated effort, the criminals were successfully overpowered, leading to the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers,” the police said.

The police also disclosed that the operation led to the successful rescue of an abducted victim identified as Mr Mosudi Gbolagade, a 50‑year‑old man who had been kidnapped in Okaka and held captive in the Otu area.

Although the victim sustained gunshot injuries during the incident, authorities said he was evacuated for urgent medical attention and is currently receiving treatment.

During the operation, security operatives reportedly recovered one AK‑47 rifle without ammunition, one single‑barrel gun, and one machete from the scene.

The command noted that one of the local hunters involved in the operation sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire and was rushed to hospital, where he is receiving medical care.

Commending the efforts of those involved, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, praised the bravery and cooperation displayed by the local hunters and other security stakeholders.

“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, lauded the gallantry of the local hunters and other security stakeholders whose timely intervention significantly contributed to the success recorded,” the statement added.

The police command reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
