The Kebbi State Police Command says it has foiled an alleged kidnap plot and arrested four suspects accused of threatening to abduct a resident of Jega if he failed to pay a ransom of N30 million.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

According to him, the suspects targeted one Aminu Garba of Jega town by repeatedly calling him on a newly acquired phone number and threatening to kidnap him unless he paid N30 million.

Usman said investigations revealed that one of the victim’s relatives allegedly supplied his phone number to the suspects.

He added that the suspects disguised their identities by speaking in a fake Fulani accent during the phone calls to intimidate the victim.

“Based on credible intelligence, the police tracked and arrested the suspects identified as Muhammad Shafiu, Mansur Ibrahim and Muhammed Sulaiman, who are currently in police custody,” the statement said.

The police spokesman said investigations into the case are ongoing and that all the suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.

He also quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Umar Hadejia, as calling on residents to continue supporting the police with useful information.

“The Commissioner of Police urges the people of Kebbi State to continue to cooperate with the police by promptly reporting crimes before they manifest,” Usman said.
