The Kebbi State Police Command has stated that its investigation into a group known as “Sai Malami” has not uncovered any terrorism‑related offences or evidence that the group is a designated terrorist organisation.
Bashir Usman, the command’s spokesman, said on Friday that the police were aware of reports claiming the group had resurfaced in parts of Argungu Local Government Area. He added that investigations had begun, using actionable intelligence to confirm or refute those claims.
The command noted that individuals arrested and prosecuted in Zuru in February 2026 were investigated for alleged criminal offences, not terrorism. Items seized from the suspects included suspected counterfeit currencies from several countries – the Nigerian Naira, United States Dollar, CFA Franc and Libyan Dinar – as well as suspected ritual or occult objects and related materials.
Usman further explained that no firearms were recovered from the suspects during the investigation. He reiterated the command’s commitment to combating all forms of crime and maintaining law and order across the state, adding that anyone found engaging in criminal activities would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
To support ongoing investigations and improve public safety, the command urged members of the public to remain calm and to assist security agencies by providing credible information.
The clarification came amid growing concern on social media and reports that the “Sai Malami” group had resurfaced in Argungu Local Government Area as a terrorist organisation. Those reports also referenced the February 2026 arrest of suspected members in Zuru Emirate, which fueled speculation about alleged links to terrorism.
The police clarified that investigations into the February arrests did not establish terrorism‑related offences, stating that the suspects were prosecuted for alleged criminal activities involving counterfeit currencies and suspected ritual items.
The command said the current investigation aims to verify the new claims and identify anyone involved in criminal activities, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
