Police deploy 6,000 officers across Edo for Eid al‑Kabir celebrations

The Edo State Police Command announced that it has deployed no fewer than 6,000 operatives to cover the Eid‑el‑Kabir celebrations throughout the state.

State Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika made the statement to journalists in Benin City, as relayed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem.

Agbonika said the 6,000 personnel were drawn from a range of formations, including tactical units, the Police Mobile Force, the State Intelligence Department (SID), Explosives Ordinance Devices (EOD) teams, and other operational groups.

He explained that the forces have been strategically positioned at Eid prayer sites, recreational centres, highways, markets, motor parks, and other public venues to deter criminal activity and ensure residents’ safety.

The Commissioner added that the deployment represents a comprehensive security strategy designed to guarantee a peaceful, safe, and incident‑free celebration across the state.

He noted that, in partnership with other security agencies, the Command has implemented a robust presence to increase visibility policing, conduct strategic patrols, gather intelligence, and carry out surveillance before, during, and after the festivities.

While congratulating the Muslim community on the occasion of Eid‑el‑Kabir, the police boss urged residents to remain law‑abiding, vigilant, and security‑conscious throughout the event.

He warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the peace or threaten public safety would be dealt with decisively, and encouraged the public to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
