On Tuesday, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu convened a dialogue with international development partners, diplomatic missions and major institutional stakeholders at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting forms part of the continuing effort to implement comprehensive reforms in the Nigeria Police Force.
Coordinated with the Police Reform Secretariat (PRS), the session gathered representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, the British High Commission, the governments of Germany, Spain and Slovakia, the National Institute for Police Studies (NIPS), and other development organisations that are committed to policing reforms in Nigeria.
During the dialogue, the IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to becoming a modern, professional, intelligence‑driven and accountable institution grounded in the rule of law, respect for human rights and community partnership.
He observed that the reforms aim to transform the Force into a technology‑driven, citizen‑focused organization capable of responding effectively to contemporary security challenges.
Professor Olu Ogunsakin, head of the Police Reform Secretariat, outlined the main pillars of the reform agenda: legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, strategic stakeholder engagement, oversight mechanisms and community trust‑building initiatives.
He emphasized the role of international partnerships in sustaining policing reforms and building institutional capacity.
