Police begin investigation as unknown persons kill youth in Aba

The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a young man in Aba. The victim’s body has been recovered and is now in a morgue awaiting autopsy.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, confirmed the incident occurred on May 24, 2026, at approximately 12:35 p.m.

According to preliminary findings, unidentified assailants chased the victim and shot him dead in front of a church on Ehere Road, near Opobo Junction in Aba.

DSP Chinaka added that officers from the Eastern Ngwa Police Division, who were patrolling at Obikabia Junction, responded to intelligence that an unknown person had been shot dead by unknown assailants.

She said the officers then led a patrol team from Ohuru Division to the scene, where the deceased was found lifeless in a pool of his own blood.

“It was the DPO at Obikabia Junction who received the distress call, and his team went there,” she said. “Preliminary investigation revealed that he was pursued. The assailants who killed him chased him as he was running toward the church, and they shot him in front of the church,” she added.
