UYO — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced that it has arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen tricycle during a series of coordinated raids aimed at intensifying the state’s crime‑prevention efforts.

The announcement came from the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who issued a statement on Monday in Uyo.

John said a resident of Afaha Itam in Itu Local Government Area reported the theft of his TVS tricycle, registration number AFG 094 WZ. The vehicle, which was purchased for about N1 million, was taken from the owner’s home by unknown individuals.

Acting on the report, police launched intelligence‑driven investigations and deployed surveillance teams to key tricycle parks and loading points within and outside Itu LGA.

The operation led to the arrest of Dominic Edet, from whom the stolen tricycle was recovered. Further inquiry resulted in the arrest of a second suspect, Asuquo Etim, who allegedly bought the tricycle from an unidentified person who remains at large.

Preliminary findings indicate the tricycle was sold for N1.8 million.

In a separate operation directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, officers conducted stop‑and‑search operations and raids at identified black spots.

During a coordinated raid in Ikot Ekwere Ubium Village, a 21‑year‑old man named Idorenyin Akpan was intercepted. A search of Akpan yielded one wrap of Crystal Methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” a toy revolver pistol, a hammer, a plier, a small clay pot containing fetish materials, a rubber container, a bottle of liquid suspected to be used for ritualistic “body protection,” and one animal horn.

CP Azare reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, dismantling criminal networks, and ensuring offenders are brought to justice. He praised the officers for their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication.

The Command also urged residents to support police efforts by providing timely and credible information, emphasizing that community partnership is essential for maintaining peace and public safety in Akwa Ibom.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains resolute in its determination to deny criminals any safe haven within the state,” the statement concluded.
