The Bauchi State Police Command has detained two individuals accused of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery related to a fraudulent civil service recruitment scheme.

This information was released on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to the statement, the case was reported to the police on 28 April 2026 after a formal complaint was filed by the Office of the Head of Civil Service through the Director of Recruitment and Training of the Civil Service Commission.

The complaint alleged that fake civil service recruitment documents were being circulated and possessed.

Following the report, detectives investigated the matter and arrested Mohammed Bappa, 30, a civil servant attached to the Shira Local Government Secretariat, and Aminu Nuru, 28, a café operator in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Police said that preliminary investigations provided credible intelligence, prompting a search of Mohammed Bappa’s residence in the Kakudi area of Azare town.

During the search, detectives recovered 20 Civil Service Commission bio‑data forms and five printed copies of suspected forged temporary appointment letters.

The recovered documents were believed to have been prepared for fraudulent recruitment activities designed to deceive unsuspecting job seekers.

The Command stated that the suspects remain in custody while investigators continue to identify other possible accomplices and determine the scope of the alleged criminal operation.

The statement added that the suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.

In response, Commissioner of Police Sani‑Omolori Aliyu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating fraud, forgery, and other criminal activities in the state.

He also urged residents to stay vigilant and verify all recruitment-related information through official government channels to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
