Police arrest three suspects, recover firearms, drugs in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has detained three individuals involved in armed robbery, kidnapping and drug trafficking. In the same operations, officers seized firearms, ammunition and suspected illicit drugs.

SP Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson for the Command, said that the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) acted on intelligence to arrest two suspects—Ogbonna Chinonso, 22, and Nnachi Cypril, 35—at a drinking spot along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway on May 30. The pair were carrying a locally made revolver pistol, a cut‑to‑size double‑barrelled gun, six rounds of 9 mm ammunition and a live cartridge.

Earlier that day, police raided a hideout in Trans‑Ekulu, Enugu, and arrested Izunna Ani, 36, a suspected drug peddler. Officers recovered large quantities of substances believed to be “Loud” and “Kolos.”

CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa praised the operatives for the arrests and reiterated the Command’s focus on intelligence‑led policing and ongoing operations against criminal activity in the state. He urged residents to keep providing useful information and confirmed that the suspects would be charged in court once investigations are complete.
