Police arrest three suspects and recover stolen vehicles in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has detained three individuals and retrieved stolen vehicles in a recent anti‑theft operation.

Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa announced the arrests in a statement released on Sunday.

According to the statement, the arrests occurred on May 16 when the Command’s Special Intervention Squad acted on credible intelligence and apprehended three suspects involved in the theft of a Toyota Camry.

The suspects were identified as Abel Nanlir Nafa from Abuja, Stephen Wanneh from Kaduna State, and Habiba Mohammad from Kano State.

One suspect admitted that the black 2015 Toyota Camry, which had no registration number, had been stolen in Enugu State and was handed to him for sale.

“The suspect confessed that the vehicle was stolen and he was aware of its status when he received it for sale,” the police said.

The second suspect also acknowledged that the car was stolen and had been invited to help sell it, while the third suspect claimed she contacted a buyer in the Niger Republic who agreed to purchase the vehicle for N1.5 million.

The stolen Toyota Camry has been recovered, and police are continuing to pursue other suspects who remain at large and to identify the rightful owner.

In a related operation, the Command also seized two additional suspected stolen vehicles at the home of a fleeing suspect, Haruna Ibrahim, in Kano.

The recovered vehicles include a red 2016 Hyundai Sonata without a registration number and an ash‑coloured 2014 Hyundai Elantra bearing the registration number KMC 523 TF.

“The Command urges anyone who recognises any of the recovered vehicles to come forward with proof of ownership,” the statement added.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori praised the operatives for their work, noting that the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence‑led policing.

He also urged residents to stay alert and continue to provide the police with timely information, assuring that all reports would be handled confidentially.
