Police arrest three suspected gang members in Zamfara.

The Zamfara State Police Command has detained three individuals suspected of belonging to an armed criminal gang that has allegedly terrorised residents of Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, a spokesperson for the command, announced the arrests on Saturday. He said the suspects were captured during a targeted operation conducted by the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on May 29, 2026.

The operation was launched after credible intelligence about the gang’s activities. Police had been monitoring the group because of its alleged involvement in a series of criminal incidents in the area.

The arrested men are identified as Ali Bahago of Danakulu via Kasuwan Daji, Hassan Dan Kure of Kasuwan Daji, and Dahiru Lawali of Gidan Ango.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of an armed criminal syndicate allegedly led by Ali Bahago, who has been linked to several criminal activities within the area,” Abubakar said.

Police reported that one member of the gang was neutralised during the operation. A search of the alleged gang leader’s residence uncovered weapons and other items believed to be connected to the group’s activities.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.

The command also said it is working to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional evidence.

“The Zamfara State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents and will continue to intensify operations against criminal elements across the state,” the statement added.
