Police arrest suspects linked to murder of 100‑level FUTO student Chibuzo in Imo.

Three individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of 21‑year‑old Christogonus Chinedu Chibuzo, a first‑year student at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, were taken into custody by officers of the Imo State Police Command.

In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said that early investigations revealed the victim, a Cyber Security student and member of the campus Man O’War organization, was allegedly beaten by members of the group after an accusation that he had stolen N13,500.

Okoye identified the suspects as Benedict Chukwuemeka (21), Gospel Kelechi Ikenna (24), and Anastasia Obioma (21). All three are 500‑level students at the university and are currently held by the Command.

The spokesperson added that the initial findings indicate the deceased was restrained and assaulted, sustaining critical injuries. He was later transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where medical staff confirmed his death.

“Upon receiving the report, Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, directed officers to act swiftly, resulting in the immediate arrest of the suspects,” Okoye said. “Relevant evidence has been secured, and the body has been placed in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.”

Okoye further explained that, to conduct a thorough and discreet investigation, the Commissioner has transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for a comprehensive examination. He also directed that all persons connected to the incident be identified and investigated to ensure justice is served.

Following the arrests, the Command assured the victim’s family, the university community, and the public that it remains fully engaged in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the death.
