Police from the Obowo Divisional Police Headquarters, working with local youth volunteers, have detained two men suspected of raping and murdering 21‑year‑old Wendy Achumba, a nursing student at Mercy College of Nursing Science in Umulogho. Achumba’s body was discovered at her off‑campus home in Umuadara, Umulogho, Obowo, Imo State.

Imo Police spokesperson Henry Okoye identified the suspects as Onyema Okonkwo, 32, and Emmanuel Onyekachi, 25. Both men are natives of the community where the crime is believed to have taken place.

Okoye said the arrests followed a sustained, intelligence‑driven investigation carried out by division officers in partnership with community stakeholders.

During questioning, the suspects admitted to raping Achumba on several occasions before killing her. Okonkwo confessed that the victim had recognized their faces, prompting them to kill her with a stick and a machete to conceal the crime.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation and will be prosecuted once the inquiry is complete.

State Police Commissioner Audu Garba Bosso assured the public that the case would be handled with the highest level of diligence and professionalism, and that those found guilty would face full legal consequences. He added that further updates would be released in due course.
