Police arrest suspect over alleged attempt to steal N5m vehicle in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has detained a man named Bala Yusuf, a resident of Dutse Local Government Area in Jigawa State, after he allegedly tried to kill a driver and steal his vehicle.

This information was released on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to the statement, the suspect had hired the driver to carry him from Abuja to Jos. Once in Jos, he allegedly convinced the driver to continue the trip to Bauchi, claiming he was visiting family.

After arriving in Bauchi, the suspect is said to have laced the driver’s food with sleeping pills and then attempted to escape with the vehicle, which was valued at approximately N5 million.

“The suspect was apprehended in possession of the vehicle, while the victim was immediately taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for medical care,” the statement added.

The command noted that an investigation is underway to determine the full details of the incident before the suspect is formally charged.
