The Police Command in Anambra has detained Okechukwu Chinweko in connection with alleged abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of a firearm in the Umudike community of Awka South Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga announced the arrest in a statement released on Tuesday in Awka.

“Anambra police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed an identified hideout in Umudike community in the early hours of May 16 after receiving credible information and arrested one Okechukwu Chinweko, male, aged 30,” Ikenga said.

“The suspect, popularly known as ‘Bullet,’ was taken into custody over alleged involvement in a case of abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of a firearm,” he added.

Ikenga noted that the suspect bore a tattoo on one arm that read “Bullet.”

During the operation, officers recovered a locally manufactured Beretta pistol and eight rounds of 9 mm live ammunition.

The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations linked the suspect to an incident that occurred on May 2, 2026, during which he allegedly abducted and raped a woman before police operatives rescued her.

“The victim was found with varying degrees of injuries on her body, while the suspect fled the scene,” Ikenga said.
