The Ebonyi State Police Command has detained six individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of HRH Eze Josephat Nnanna Ikegwu, the traditional ruler of the Ishinkwo Community.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, announced the arrests on Tuesday in Abakaliki. He said the operation followed a sustained intelligence‑led investigation carried out by command operatives.
The suspects are Ucha Johnson, Ogobuchi Igwe, Nkpuma Nwankwo, Edwin Onwoshi, Itumo Joseph, and Emmanuel Nwaoba. They were apprehended in connection with the killing.
During the raid, officers recovered an AK‑47 rifle that was loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition.
Ikegwu was reportedly murdered at his home on 2 April 2026, an event that has caused tension and concern within the community.
Commissioner of Police for Ebonyi State, Hope Urunwa Okafor, confirmed the command’s commitment to bringing all those involved to justice. She also assured residents that the police would continue to address violent crime and uphold public safety throughout the state.
The police said the suspects will be brought before a court once investigations are complete.
