The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with an armed robbery attack on students of Sa’adu Zungur University, Itas-Gadau Campus, at an off-campus hostel in Gadau.

The command said the suspects allegedly invaded Rahama House, an off-campus hostel, in the early hours of Wednesday, attacking students and injuring two with machetes before fleeing with two Android phones.

According to a statement issued by the Spokesman of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. when the hoodlums reportedly stormed the hostel after allegedly conspiring to carry out the attack.

The police said operatives from the Gadau Division responded promptly to a distress call under the Safe Schools Initiative and rushed to the scene.

The injured students were evacuated to the General Hospital, Azare, where they are receiving treatment.

The statement added that detectives later launched a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of all seven suspects and the recovery of the stolen phones.

It noted that after preliminary investigations, the suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the attack and vowed that everyone involved would be brought to justice.

He also reassured residents, particularly students, of the command’s commitment to ensuring their safety and security.

The police urged members of the public, especially students residing off-campus, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
