Police arrest four for Hajj fraud in Kebbi.

The Kebbi Police Command has taken into custody four individuals accused of defrauding prospective pilgrims in the state.

SP Bashir Usman, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, said that the arrests followed complaints from victims and the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency. The suspects allegedly issued fake Hajj bags and falsified medical records to unsuspecting pilgrims.

According to Usman, the investigation began when the names of the intended pilgrims were missing from the official list of approved participants, yet they possessed what appeared to be legitimate Hajj materials. Further inquiry revealed that these items had been fraudulently provided by the suspects.

The statement identified the primary suspect, Aminu Hassan Zauro, as well as Tabiu Abubakar, Usman Attahiru, Mustapha Sani Zauro, and a person named Bello Jos, all of whom are currently in custody and under investigation.

Usman added that Zauro deceived a victim out of ₦8,600.00 by promising to secure two Hajj seats.

“The prime suspect, Aminu Hassan Zauro, has no affiliation with the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency but, together with the other suspects, conspired to defraud unsuspecting pilgrims by providing them with counterfeit Hajj materials,” he said.

While the other suspects remain at large, CP Umar M. Hajia urged the public to remain vigilant against Hajj fraudsters and to transact only through the agency or its approved agents.

Hajia pledged to pursue justice in the case and to bring the remaining offenders to account, warning that those who continue their illicit activities will face police action.
