The Ogun State Police Command has announced significant progress in its ongoing crime‑cracking campaign across the state, following the arrest of a father and son pair and three additional suspects. Operatives also seized four firearms and a stolen Tecno Android phone worth N180,000.

The arrests and recoveries stemmed from a series of intelligence‑driven operations conducted by units from the Afon, Ilisan Remo and Ode Remo Divisions.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Command, released a statement on Friday detailing the findings: one locally made pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, two Dane guns, one live cartridge, and the stolen mobile phone were recovered.

Babaseyi explained that the Afon Division arrested father Fatai Adegbola and his 23‑year‑old son Waliu Adegbola after a theft report was received on May 22, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. The younger Adegbola was accused of stealing a Tecno Android phone from a residential apartment on May 8.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives swiftly tracked and recovered the stolen phone. Further discreet investigation led to a search of the suspects’ residence conducted pursuant to a duly obtained warrant, during which a locally made pistol and a Dane gun were recovered, allegedly concealed within the premises,” the statement read.

Both suspects remain in custody while investigators determine the extent of their involvement and identify any accomplices.

In a separate operation, Ilisan Remo Division operatives recovered a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge during a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. The item was found abandoned and immediately secured by the patrol team. It has been deposited in the division’s armoury while an investigation seeks to trace its origin and ownership.

Similarly, Ode Remo Division operatives arrested Inioluwa Adesanya, 25, over the alleged theft of a Dane gun belonging to a resident of Ode Remo. Police investigations revealed that the suspect had entered the complainant’s residence posing as a carpenter’s assistant hired for renovation work before stealing the firearm.

Babaseyi reported that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and admitted membership in the Aye confraternity. He also stated that the weapon had been modified for concealment purposes.

The recovered Dane gun has been secured as an exhibit, and the suspect is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The command noted that all cases have been forwarded to the SCID for discreet investigation.

Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives for their professionalism and swift response. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence‑driven operations against violent crime, cultism, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms across the state.

Ojajuni also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through the command’s emergency lines.
