The Nigeria Police Force, through its Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID‑IRT), has arrested a suspect named John Cosmos Govi. Authorities allege that Govi participated in a high‑profile robbery that targeted luxury items and valuables worth approximately ₦150 million in Abuja.
DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, released a statement on Monday outlining the case. He said that Govi, who reportedly attended a catering school in Cotonou, Benin Republic, secured a position as a chef in the victim’s residence after allegedly connecting with two accomplices known only as Peter and Moses, who remain at large.
According to the statement, police investigations found that Govi had carefully observed the routine, movements and security arrangements of the residence before allegedly carrying out the operation on 23 April 2026.
The statement further claimed that food prepared in the residence was allegedly laced with a suspected sedative intended to incapacitate the occupants and security staff. Once the substance took effect, Govi is said to have enabled his accomplices to enter the house.
The gang reportedly vandalised the CCTV system, ransacked the apartment and removed cash along with 20 luxury wristwatches valued at about ₦150 million.
FID‑IRT operatives intercepted the suspects while they were reportedly attempting to flee through the Gwagwalada axis en route to Lagos. During the operation, police recovered an iPhone 17 Pro Max belonging to the victim and a suspected chemical substance, which has been forwarded for forensic analysis.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to combating criminal activity nationwide and stated that all individuals involved in organised crime will be brought to justice.
