Jos — The Plateau State Police Command arrested 25 suspects and seized cannabis, controlled drugs and other prohibited substances during a coordinated raid on identified drug hotspots in Jos.

The operation, carried out on Saturday evening, focused on locations around Old Airport Junction and Fwavei Junction, areas the police described as notorious points for the sale and distribution of illicit substances.

A statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP Alfred Alabo, released to newsmen on Sunday, said the raid began at about 7:55 p.m. and was led by the Officer‑in‑Charge of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The operation involved personnel from the Anglo‑Jos Division, the Anti‑Cybercrime and Narcotic Unit, the Monitoring Unit and the Eagle Eye Patrol Team.

According to the police, 25 suspects were taken into custody during the exercise, while exhibits including cannabis, controlled drugs and other banned substances were recovered and secured.

The Command said investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement and to uncover possible links to wider criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Bassey Ewah, praised the officers who participated in the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating drug‑related crimes across the state.

He said the police would continue intelligence‑led operations and aggressive patrols to dismantle criminal networks and improve public safety.

The Commissioner also urged residents to keep providing timely and credible information to security agencies, warning that individuals involved in drug trafficking or other criminal activities would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and thanked residents for their support in maintaining security across Plateau State.

Police also encouraged the public to report criminal activities and misconduct by security personnel through designated complaint and emergency channels.
