Police arrest 23 suspects in coordinated raids across Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command announced that its officers have detained 23 suspects during coordinated raids and intelligence‑driven operations throughout the state.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, released a statement on Thursday confirming the arrests.

On 14 May 2026, around noon, police from Tarmuwa Division, working with local vigilante members, conducted a major raid at Tashan Fulani Village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

During the operation, four suspects were taken into custody while in possession of several items, including two and a half bundles of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, five packets of liquid substances, 10 litres of a substance commonly known as “Suck and Die”, as well as Tramadol and Enzol tablets.

“Similarly, on 13 May 2026, at about 9:30 pm, operatives from A Division Damaturu carried out a joint night patrol and raid in Damaturu township, targeting identified hotspots such as Zango CMC, the Mass Transit Area and Jerusalem Ajayi,” the statement added.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 19 suspects, comprising 14 males and 5 females.

Recovered items included Tramadol capsules, Exol, Diazepam tablets and quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

All 23 suspects are currently undergoing screening; those found guilty will be charged and brought to court.

State Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin has instructed officers and tactical teams to maintain the operational tempo and intensify efforts to eliminate criminal elements from their hideouts.

He also urged the public to continue supporting police and other security agencies by providing timely, credible information, and to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons, movements or objects within their communities.
