Police arraign seven suspects over Kano GSM market attack

The Kano State Police Command has provided an update on its investigation and prosecution efforts following the thuggery attack at the Farm Centre GSM market in Kano on April 28, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the command said two additional suspects linked to the incident had been arrested following a discreet intelligence-led investigation.

The newly arrested suspects were identified as Sadiq Ayuba, 18, of Darmanawa Quarters, Kano, and Abdulganiyu Abba, 38, of Mariri Quarters, Kano.

According to the police statement: “During interrogation, Sadiq Ayuba confessed that he and other suspects were mobilised and paid by one Mallam Hassan, now at large, to carry out an attack on Farm Centre GSM Market and on the entourage of AA Zaura.”

The police added: “The attack led to the destruction of businesses and properties, damage to a Toyota ambulance motor vehicle belonging to the entourage, and a tricycle belonging to one Shamsuddeen Sani.”

With the latest arrests, the number of suspects linked to the case has risen to seven.

All seven suspects were arraigned on May 13, 2026, before Magistrate Court Number 2, Nomansland, Kano. They are facing charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, unlawful assembly, possession of dangerous weapons, and mischief.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the command would continue efforts to apprehend all individuals involved in violent thuggery and public disturbances in the state, including those alleged to have sponsored the attack.

He also confirmed that efforts to arrest the principal suspect, Mallam Hassan, were ongoing.

Bakori commended members of the public for providing useful information that aided the investigation and urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely intelligence to maintain peace and security in Kano.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring that all those involved in violent acts are brought to justice.
