The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to working with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the 2027 general elections in Lagos State are conducted peacefully and credibly.
This statement was released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, after INEC officials visited the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
During the visit, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, received the INEC delegation headed by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Salami.
Salami congratulated CP Fatai on his recent appointment and expressed a desire for continued partnership and support from the police command as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
The statement highlighted that INEC stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration with security agencies to guarantee that the polls in the state are peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
“The INEC delegation was led by Prof. Abayomi Salami, the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who congratulated the CP on his appointment and sought the continued collaboration and support of the Command as preparations towards the 2027 General Elections gather momentum,” the statement read.
In response, CP Fatai underscored the need for synergy between relevant institutions to strengthen democratic governance and increase public confidence in the electoral process.
He also assured INEC that the police command is prepared to provide the necessary security support within the bounds of the law.
“He reaffirmed the readiness of the Lagos State Police Command to provide adequate security support and respond positively to all lawful requests by INEC in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement added.
CP Fatai further emphasized the importance of inter‑agency cooperation in maintaining peace and order before, during, and after the elections in the state.
