The United Kingdom has named Peter Vowles its new High Commissioner to Nigeria.

The decision was announced on Monday by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), which said Vowles will replace Richard Montgomery in the post.

Vowles is a seasoned diplomat who previously served as the UK ambassador to Zimbabwe and has held several senior roles within the FCDO.

The appointment comes as the United Kingdom and Nigeria continue to strengthen cooperation in trade, security, education, climate action and economic development.

In his new role, Vowles will represent the British government and King Charles III in Nigeria, overseeing diplomatic relations, trade and investment partnerships, consular services and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
