ABUJA – Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), arrived at the headquarters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja to attend the party’s presidential screening ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former Anambra State governor, who is widely regarded as a leading contender and the sole candidate for the NDC’s ticket, arrived at about 6:45 p.m. wearing his customary black kaftan and cap.
He was accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh of the NDC, representing Anambra Central, and later submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms through an aide.
His arrival followed shortly after the chairman of the screening committee, Sam Egwu, entered the venue.
Speculation that Obi may become a consensus candidate has intensified in recent days, after the NDC suspended the sale of presidential nomination forms while extending deadlines for other elective positions.
Both Obi’s camp and the party leadership have denied any consensus arrangement, yet political attention to his candidacy continues to grow.
The NDC had earlier announced a 17‑member screening committee to oversee the exercise for aspirants contesting various offices ahead of the 2027 elections.
