Peter Obi unlikely to gain ground in Kano politics – Bature

The Kano State Government has warned that former presidential candidate Peter Obi may struggle to build a political base in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, made the remark on Wednesday while commenting on national political developments.

He noted that Kano remains a politically conservative state, where voter behaviour is shaped by long‑standing ideological and regional considerations.

According to him, these factors could limit the prospects of politicians whose support base is stronger in other parts of the country.

“Peter Obi may not find it easy to gain ground in Kano politics because the political environment here is shaped by deep‑rooted beliefs and long‑established political structures,” he said.

Bature added that discussions about the 2027 elections have already begun to generate varied narratives across the country, including predictions about how different presidential candidates might perform in various regions.

He emphasized that political acceptance in Kano is influenced more by loyalty, ideology, and regional alignment than by popularity alone.
