Peter Obi: INEC Chairman Is Acting on Tinubu’s Script

Peter Obi, the leading presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, is following a script supposedly written by President Bola Tinubu.

The former Anambra State governor made the claim during an interview with News Central TV that has not yet been published.

Clips released by News Central TV showed Obi explaining that he had recently written to Amupitan, warning him that his tenure would not last.

Obi said, “If anyone had suggested that we could employ professors to manage our elections and that it would be worse, I would have said a firm no.”

He added, “I wrote to the current INEC Chairman and said, ‘Remember, you will not be here forever.’”

When asked whether INEC functions as an agent of the president, Obi replied, “Yes, absolutely. Whatever the INEC Chairman is doing today, he is following the script written by the man who hired him.”
