PDP Raises Concerns About Political Climate Ahead of Ekiti Governorship Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has voiced concern about the political climate in the state ahead of the 2026 governorship election, urging all stakeholders to continue efforts to maintain peace, strengthen democratic institutions, and safeguard citizens’ right to participate freely in the electoral process.

At a press conference in Ado‑Ekiti, the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, said recent developments in the state’s political arena have caused anxiety among party members and supporters.

He noted that worries have intensified within the opposition following reports of arrests, detentions and other incidents involving party supporters in certain parts of the state, developments he said are adding to the apprehension of political actors as the poll approaches.

While reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, Ogunsakin stressed the necessity for political leaders, security agencies and public institutions to uphold democratic principles and ensure an environment where citizens can freely exercise their constitutional rights.

“As political activities gather momentum ahead of the governorship election, all stakeholders must work collectively to prevent actions capable of increasing tension or undermining public confidence in the electoral process,” he said.
