PDP endorses Adebutu for Ogun gubernatorial primary ahead of the 2027 election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved former governorship candidate Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu to contest the party’s gubernatorial primary for the 2027 general elections.

Adebutu reportedly passed the PDP’s mandatory screening exercise conducted at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, where candidates from across the nation were verified and assessed for eligibility.

The information was released in a statement from Adebutu’s media aide, Mr. Afolabi Orekoya, on Saturday, who called the clearance a significant milestone in the lead‑up to Ogun State’s 2027 governorship contest.

Orekoya said the successful screening confirmed Adebutu’s readiness and eligibility to run under the PDP banner in the upcoming election.

He added that the clearance has stirred enthusiasm among party members, supporters and stakeholders throughout the state.

“The clearance has sparked excitement among party faithful, supporters and stakeholders across Ogun State, many of whom see it as a defining moment in the collective quest for purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance and a new direction for the state.”

Adebutu, a prominent PDP leader and former opposition figure in Ogun State, is widely seen as a formidable candidate because of his grassroots support and long history in democratic politics.

Several party stakeholders who commented after the screening expressed optimism that the next stages of the process would further consolidate support for his bid.

PDP observers also noted that Adebutu’s experience, broad grassroots network and dedication to democratic principles have bolstered his reputation within the party and among voters.

Orekoya added that Adebutu remains dedicated to policies aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of Ogun residents.

“Hon. Adebutu has consistently maintained his commitment to advancing policies centred on economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, infrastructure renewal and improved welfare for the people of Ogun State,” he stated.

Following the screening, PDP political activities are expected to gain momentum as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
