PDP Begins Screening Presidential and Governorship Aspirants

The Abdulraman Mohammed‑led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will begin screening its presidential and governorship aspirants for the 2027 general election.

The party announced this in a statement released by its National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, speaking for National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed in Abuja on Thursday.

The screening of governorship aspirants is scheduled for noon on Thursday at the PDP National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, while the presidential aspirants will be screened starting at 2 p.m. at the same venue.

According to the statement, the presidential aspirants’ screening committee is chaired by former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as Secretary.

Other committee members include: Alhaji Abba Isawa, Senator George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Mrs Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Senator Zainab Kure and Lindsey Sora.

The chairman of the governorship aspirants’ screening committee is former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, and George Ariolu will act as Secretary.

Additional members of this committee are: Dr Ibrahim Umar, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Alhaji Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong and Mrs Precious Ojelabi.

The Interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, led by Tanimu Turaki, extended the deadline for purchasing nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 general election on Wednesday.

In a public notice signed jointly by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong and National Organising Secretary Theophilus Shan, the NWC extended the purchase period for all offices to May 15.

The final date for submitting completed forms was also extended to May 18, with the screening of aspirants scheduled for May 19.

The NWC said the decision was made after receiving appeals from various stakeholders and aspirants across the federation.

It added that candidates for National and State Assembly positions will be screened in their respective states, while governorship and presidential aspirants will be screened in Abuja.

All other activities previously announced remain unchanged. (NAN)
